TRUE ALPINE SKI CHALET

Chalet Les Colombes is situated in the idyllic unspoiled mountain village of St Nicolas la Chapelle, only 80 minutes from Geneva airport and 25 minutes from Albertville train station. We are also only 45 minutes from the beautiful lakeside town of Annecy. The beauty of our location is that each day we can start skiing from a different ski resort. We are only a short 4 minute drive from the gateway to the Espace Diamante ski area.
Our luxury chalet can comfortably accommodate 10 people. There are 3 twin bedrooms and 2 double bedrooms all of which have modern en-suite facilities. 2 of the bedrooms have balconies leading from them with beautiful views over the mountains and 2 of the bedrooms have slightly restricted head room due to vaulted ceilings but this does not detract from their beauty. We think that a good night's sleep is so important whilst skiing that we have invested in pocket sprung/memory foam beds for our guests' comfort. Every week without fail our guests comments on how comfortable our beds are. Each bedroom also has tea and coffee making facilities and a hair dryer. There are plenty of hooks and storage in all of the bedrooms for your personal equipment and there are safes available in the chalet to lock away those personal valuable items.
The beautifully decorated large open plan lounge and dining area have lovely views over the valley and the wood burning stove is a pleasure to sit in front after an enjoyable day on the slopes.  There is no Television in the chalet.  This makes it a true "get away from it all" holiday

HIGH altitude verses LOW altitude ski resorts

Altitude is always a big discussion topic with regards to snow conditions. The bigger operators use altitude in all their publicity to sell holidays. Most peoples’ perceptions is that the higher the ski resort, the better the skiing conditions are going to be but this is not always the case. Higher resorts do get more snow but they do need more snow to cover the rocky terrain. Being at altitude you can suffer from high winds and extremely cold conditions, resulting in hard packed wind slab slopes and poor visibility. Lower resorts can suffer when it is warmer but they do need less snow due to the fact that the majority of the pistes are meadow grass. In recent years the lower resorts have adapted to climate change by installing snow making machinery which ensures a good base for people to ski all of the season. The Espace Diamant ski area’s proximity to Mont Blanc plays a vital roll in the amount of snow it gets during the season. The resort of Les Saisies has one of the top snow records in the French Alps. It enjoys the privilege of being at the foot of Mont-Blanc and has superior snowfalls and maximum sun exposure. If Les Saisies is suffering with a lack of snow then most of the other resorts in the French Alps will be as well. The Espace Diamant is currently one of the best kept secrets in the French Alps.www.truealpine.com
